PLACEMATS: A SERIES OF FUNDAMENTAL FLOORS

hand cut carpets, 1000 photographs, dimensions variable, 2003

50 school children, from a variety of suburbs, to draw the floor spaces of their home interiors in and around the furniture. these diagrams were then translated and cut out of carpets, producing a series of rugs (placemats).

Each student then took a series of the mats – sourced from the homes of other students from other suburbs – to their place, and documented the encounters with a disposable camera.
